Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU)was established on November 24, 1969, to commemorate 500th birth anniversary of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. The University was established at Amritsar, which is known for the rich cultural heritage of four centuries, a living symbol of historical and religious traditions of Sikhs which is expressed through the divinely – blessed shrines, and rightfully known as “religious capital of the Sikhs”.The University has risen to 16th rank in the top 50 universities of the country, as per the recent survey conducted by ‘India Today’ and also has achieved 11th Position, out of the 500 universities, in Publications in science.

The exact location of GNDU is, near village Kot Khalsa, nearly 8 km west of the city, Grand Trunk Road, Off NH1, Amritsar.

The official website of GNDU is

The University boasts 37 academic departments, three regional campuses, eleven constituent colleges.

University Library has been named after the great Sikh Scholar Bhai Gurdas. Bhai Gurdas Library was established in March 1970. The library’s building is a five-storeyed, pyramid-shaped visible from the main gate of the University. For the convenience of teachers and students, 22 departmental libraries have also been established.

The University has three hostels for boys namely Sahibzada Jujhar Singh Boys Hostel 1, Sahibzada Zorawar Singh Boys Hostel 2, University Boys Hostel 3 and four hostels for girls namely Mata Nanaki Girls Hostel 1, 2, 3 and 4. The hostels are well equipped and adequately ventilated. The hostellers are provided with the facility of Mess which is on a contract basis that offers nutritious food to students. Many other facilities like Wi-Fi, canteen, reading rooms, computer rooms, common rooms etc. are provided to the hostellers.

A healthy mind can only reside in a healthy body. Hence, all cafeterias have menus that are designed by a team of professional dieticians and offer nutritious and wholesome food to ensure a balanced diet. Famous cafeterias of the University are Arts Cafe, Fun Bytes etc. More than 9000 placements are provided by the University amongst which most are the Centralised placements. The highest salary package till now has been of 21 Lakhs.

The courses offered by the Department of Laws, GNDU are LLB(Three-year course), B.A.LLB ( Five years integrated course) and LLM. Around 40 dignified teaching faculty members are part of this department. Many of the teaching staff are PhD scholars. All the teachers are well experienced in their fields. The basis for the admission to the courses offered by the department is based on the State Level Admission Process,i.e. according to orders of Govt.of Punjab.

Activities like Moot Court competition, Quiz Competition, Debate Contest etc. are well organised by the Dept. of Laws, GNDU every year. Further at University level, an Inter-Departmental cultural programme known as JASHAN is organised by the University every year in which all the departments of the University participate with full enthusiasm.

The best thing about my Law school is that the teachers here are most friendly and they always try to solve the problems of students from the root level itself. They always try to give their best to the students out of their bag of experience. Also, there is no place for RAGGING in our university itself, which makes this place more comfortable to survive and learn.

The worst thing about my Law school is that herein the Major- Minor system of examination is not sound, which leaves students with almost no time to do other activities. However, it is essential to held exams so that the students could be assessed, but the University should opt for half-yearly or Annual examination system so that students should experience something and gain more knowledge while getting more familiar to the concepts.

Its been completion of my third year here in GNDU and I have collected much of my good and bad memories here in this university. I have got opportunities to know many people of a different culture, from different places. Just two years left for connecting with many people, for collecting more memories. I feel so blessed to be the part of Department of Laws, GNDU
